Alternative Types of Roundabouts as a Measure to Improve Traffic Safety at Intersections
Main Article Content
Abstract
Two-lane roundabouts, the one-level intersection types, are used as a solution to increase the capacity of the intersection (in comparison to the classic and the one-lane roundabout). However, at the same time they significantly reduce the level of traffic safety. Alternative roundabouts are a “compromise” for achieving higher capacity compared to one-lane, and better traffic safety compared to two-lane roundabouts. The paper presents the application of alternative roundabouts at the location of the existing two-lane roundabout and multi-criteria analysis as a tool in selecting the optimal variant.
